Purple Castle is an area in B3313.

Description

Purple Castle is somewhat vaguely similar in structure to Vanilla Upstairs, with a ring-shaped hub room. The area also contains two connected rooms with a sandy floor that reduces Mario/Luigi's jump height; a mirror room with four pedestals holding translucent vanilla Boo statues, and a diving Lakitu enemy. There is also a room, leading to Ghostly Courtyard, with an empty fountain and two Boo statues.

Origins

The majority of this area was originally created by SonicAndMarioGames1985 for the ROM hack "Luigi's Ghostly Quest".

The area was then altered and added to B3313. It uses textures from the beta and final versions of the game. Notably, some have been modified to have a purple tone, similarly to Purple Upstairs.

In v0.2, the music played here was an arrangement of Inside the Castle Walls from Purple Upstairs.

As of v1.0, the music playing here is a remix of "River Twygz Bed" from Super Paper Mario created by NewSupKaizo55. This music is the one played in Polygonal Chaos.

• Purple Lobby: Enter the double doors.
• Floor 4B: Use the Vanish Cap found in the first sandy-floored room to pass through the mirror and enter the door beyond it.
• Ghostly Courtyard: Enter the single door in a brick wall, then the door beyond it.

There are no entrances leading to this area, it can only be accessed with Star Display.

Leading away

• Beta Lobby C: Jump into the warp pipe in the room with two juxtaposed Boo plaques.
• Dry Town (flooded state): Jump into the warp pipe in the room with Scuttlebugs scurrying around a web that hampers Mario/Luigi's jump.
• Big Boo's Haunted Forest: Jump into the key near the ceiling of the room behind the mirror.

Trivia

• Oddly enough, Purple Upstairs is not the upstairs of Purple Castle. Rather, the Purple Lobby is on the same level as the upper floor of Purple Upstairs.
• The geometry will sometimes glitch on the first floor of the area. This is not an intentional corruption caused by Personalization Values, but instead a true, unintended glitch.
• Unlike most other mirrors in the hack, the one on Purple Castle's second floor does not show Mario/Luigi's reflection. The Lakitu in this room looks like the Lakitu Bro reflected in the mirror in the vanilla game, but he is actually an enemy who will dive at the brothers. However, Lakitu cannot pass through the mirror and can only cause damage when Mario/Luigi is on the same side as him.
• This area and Purple Lobby were once thought to be separate areas, with the latter dubbed "Boos' Upstairs," but it was revealed that they are actually connected.
