Nightmare Basement

Nightmare Basement is an area in B3313.

Description[]

This area is nearly structurally identical to the vanilla Super Mario 64 basement, but is blanketed in a black fog. Most of the doors in this area are locked, and none of the level entrances are functional. There is a Vanish Cap block up the slope to the left of the basement entrance, which be used to pass through the defunct Shifting Sand Land entrance and collect a star.

The only usable door in the basement leads into the Hazy Maze Cave room. In place of the room's typical pool of metallic liquid, there is instead a hole which the player can drop through to reach another duplicate of the courtyard. A Toad stands nearby, demanding that the player jump down the hole if spoken to.

The version of the courtyard beneath the Hazy Maze Cave room appears to be nearly identical to the castle courtyard from the vanilla game, even having the star statue which Vanilla Courtyard lacks. Once the player has arrived there, the only exit is the door to the castle, which returns them to the Vanilla Lobby.

The area is a recreation of the one found in the ROM hack "Dream 64" by SonicandMarioGames1985.

There is no music playing in this area.

Stars[]

A star can be found by talking to the faceless Toad in the dead-end of the basement.
A star can be found by using the Vanish Cap located up the small slope near the key door to go through the wall that normally leads to Shifting Sand Land in the vanilla game.
A Green Star can be found in the Bowser in the Fire Sea hallway. The door to this hallway is only unlocked once the player has 120 stars.
