B3313 Wiki

Monochrome Castle Grounds is an area in B3313.

Description[]

The area looks much like the Castle Grounds from v0.7. However, almost everything appears devoid of color, most objects (including the Toad statue in the back) and warps are missing, and the moat is drained. The only warp point that leads the player somewhere different is the front door of the castle; entering the back door warps the player back to the spawn point.

Origins[]

The appearance of the front area of the castle grounds comes from the Shoshinkai beta version of Super Mario 64, with the grayscale filter in particular resembling an image seen in the November 22, 1995, patent.

"Dire, Dire Victory," a track by Chris, plays here in addition to wind howling. In versions prior to or not derived from v1.0, there's only the wind.

  • Until v1.0, dying in this area will warp the player to Plexal Lobby without HUD.

  1. According to lead developer Chris, this is not a bug, but an intentional feature, meaning that this level and all subsequent areas are technically considered "accessible."
