Floating Hotel is an area in B3313.

Description[]

Upon entering the area, the player spawns in the hotel's courtyard, which is full of trees and Goombas. The beta clock symbol appears high above the entrance to the hotel. The hotel itself, excluding the lobby, consists of a big maze-like room, with a corridor at the opposite end lined with doors. Exiting the courtyard leads to a large open area, much like a balcony, with some trees and several small islands in the sky beyond it.

Origins[]

The area's layout mostly seems to be an original creation, although the hotel's hallway with the many doors might be inspired by Marionova's own personalization-themed hack, Breaking the Barrier, which has multiple similar hallways. Textures are taken from the vanilla Super Mario 64 and beta versions of it, such as the Shoshinkai and E3 versions. The appearance of the trees comes from unused sprites found in the vanilla game's source code.

The music playing is the "Underground" theme from the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island OST.

Stars[]

This area has 2 stars to collect in the official v1.0:

  • (v1.0) Collect 5 silver stars to spawn a star on the largest floating island.
    • 1 inside a breakable box
    • 2 on the floating islands
    • 2 inside the maze
  • (v1.0) A green star appears behind the door that has butterflies in front of it.
  • (v0.9 or earlier) Collect 8 red coins to spawn a star on the largest floating island.
  • (A2) There is a star at the top of the beta clock symbol.

Warps[]

Trivia[]

  • Before v0.6, the area had no stars and was gloomier in nature, filled with a gray fog. There were also no hotel rooms. The significance of this is unknown, possibly irrelevant as it has been overwritten.
  • From v0.6.1 to v0.6.8 (?), there was a warp pipe unintentionally left below the hotel's courtyard, accessible using the wing cap. The pipe led to the Haunted Castle Grounds, allowing for the hack to be beaten with 0 stars. However, the pipe has since been removed, increasing the star requirement for beating the hack to 30 stars.
